Speaking for a Generation: My Experience at the Nyanza International Investment Conference

When I received the invitation to speak at the Nyanza International Investment Conference (NIICO), I knew this wasn’t just another speaking engagement it was a call to impact, a moment to speak not only as a tech entrepreneur but as someone who believes deeply in the power of youth-driven innovation to transform our economy.

Representing Oracom Group and our 16 growing brands, I was honored to be among leaders, investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs gathered under one roof, brought together by a bold vision: “Rising Towards Economic Transformation for Social-Economic Growth and Development.”

A Stage that Spoke to the Future

With 14 counties, 22 million people, and 32 value chains represented, the Nyanza region stood tall, full of potential, and ready for investment. As I stood on that stage to speak on Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation, I felt the weight and the privilege of speaking for an entire generation of young entrepreneurs who are not waiting for change, but creating it.

I shared lessons from my own journey starting Oracom from the ground up, building digital solutions that today power businesses across Kenya, and launching initiatives like MyBigOrder, an initiative we launched to connect buyers and sellers at the grassroots level through an online marketplace. It was built with the vision of transforming local commerce, enabling access and visibility for traders in every county across Kenya.

This platform has not only given SMEs a digital voice but has also opened new channels for youth-led businesses and rural entrepreneurs to compete in larger markets.

One of the key messages I delivered was this: innovation is not limited to apps or AI, it’s how we solve everyday problems in our communities. It’s how we approach farming, tourism, trade, even culture and crafts. If we equip our youth with tools, mentorship, and platforms, they won’t just ask for jobs, they’ll create them.

It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm, the questions, and the commitments made by county leaders, development partners, and youth groups. This wasn’t a conference for talking; it was a platform for action.

A Personal Commitment to Transformation

As someone who works at the intersection of tech and enterprise, I walked away from the Nyanza conference re-energized. The conversations, the partnerships formed, and the energy in the room reminded me that we are on the brink of a transformation—one led by youth, powered by innovation, and sustained by collaboration.

I remain committed to being part of this journey. Whether through mentorship, building digital solutions, or investing in young talent, I believe that Kenya and Africa rises when we rise together.
